Mike Reid Photography

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA

Pet, creative & travel photography

I photograph dogs who refuse to sit still, cosplayers in full character, and the reefs and streets I travel to — then print the results big.

01
HELLO

I'd rather wait for the moment than stage one

Most of my favourite frames happen in the half-second after somebody stops posing — the dog that finally looks up, the cosplayer who breaks character and laughs, the light that lands for about four seconds on a temple wall.

I took a photography class in high school in the nineties, put it down for twenty years, and picked it back up in 2016. Since then it’s been dogs, portraits, conventions, and — since I learned to dive in 2020 — whatever I can find underwater.

SELECTED WORK

A little of everything I point a camera at

Dogs, costumes, coral and cathedrals. Click any frame to see it larger.

03
WHAT I DO

Three ways we might work together

A tan mixed-breed dog standing alert in long grass

Pet portraits

Unposed, patient sessions with dogs, cats and the occasional horse — at home, at a park, or somewhere your animal actually likes.

A portrait against a brick wall in warm afternoon light

Portraits & events

Portrait sessions, headshots, parties and business openings. Unposed, unhurried, and shot around you rather than at you.

A wide river winding between arid bluffs in the Columbia River Gorge

Fine-art prints

Travel and underwater photographs, printed to order on pearl or metallic paper and sent to your wall.

WHY ME

Calm, unhurried, and used to difficult subjects

Animals set the pace

No forced sits, no squeaky-toy panic. We work at your dog's speed and take as long as it takes.

Real moments, not poses

I shoot around you rather than at you. The keepers are almost always the frames nobody was ready for.

Made to be printed

Everything is edited and delivered at full resolution, and I'll happily handle the printing.

The images are yours

You get every edited frame at full size with permission to print and post them. No drip-feed.

ABOUT

A high school darkroom, a twenty-year gap, and a very patient dog

My dog Sierra has been the test subject for every new camera and every daft idea since 2016. She’s fifteen now and remains deeply unimpressed by the whole arrangement.

I’m based in Raleigh and shoot across the Triangle, with a few trips a year further afield. This is a hobby I love rather than a full-time studio — and every photograph on this site is one I took myself.
